Meet the Lynn and Brian

Lynn and Brian are our delivery team! They are the face of Loewen Design Studios and make sure all our customers receive their tables.
For ease Lynn - L and Brian - B.
Can you describe what your job is at Loewen Design Studios?
L- We're the delivery team! We're responsible for communicating with customs when we cross the border, to completing the delivery and installation of the customers table.
B- Lynn reviews the route for us, and starts the conversation with the customers.
L- I think it’s important to introduce ourselves to the customer and tell them when we expect to reach their home. In some cases, I’ve been in contact with the customer three or four times before we deliver the table, the customer always seems to appreciate that!
B- Lynn utilizes Google Maps to plan for parking, and delivering, when we get to the destination.
L- The extra time spent on planning can make a big difference, depending on where we’re delivering to. We’ve delivered in some rural areas that would have been difficult to navigate without the extra information we got online.
B- Do you remember that place with the cows in Texas? We couldn’t tell if we were on a driveway, or in the farmers field!
L- What about New York City’s busy roads, especially with the trailer! We really need to know what we are getting ourselves into regarding parking, once we park we will spend a considerable time unloading and setting up the products.
B- Once we arrive at the client’s home, Lynn will go and meet the clients, while I’m getting ready to unload in the trailer.
L- I bring the blanket in and find out where we will be setting up the table.
B- Once we’ve gotten all the legs of the table attached then we get to our favorite part of the job, the reveal.
L- Yes, without a doubt, that’s the most fun part!

So how did y'all meet Ted and Darlene?
L- Our sons went to school together and we developed a friendship. I would see Darlene often because she participated in the weekly fitness bootcamps that I ran.
If you could switch jobs with anyone in the company who would you switch with?
L- I like what we do! I’m not sure if I would switch with anyone.
B- I'd probably take Lynn’s job.
L- *Laughs*
L- I guess I’d take your job then! In all seriousness, I think it would be fun to learn how to make the tables.

Where is your favorite place that you guys have traveled to? Not just with Loewen Designs, but just ever?
L- I don’t even have to think about it: Georgian Bay is an incredible place, and definitely my favorite. We spent last summer on our boat up there, anchored by waterfalls, surrounded by islands, absolutely beautiful. Although we have seen beautiful countryside delivering through the United States. Forty-four States so far!
Do you have a favorite state that you've been to?
B- Pick just one for a favourite! How about a top three, that's even hard. Colorado, California, Washington…how about Vermont can I add that too? Wait there’s more….
L- Oh, you like Washington, I remember how much fun we had there. I think my favourite state would have to be Florida. Lots of boats!

Washington in the fall
So tell us about Nautical Escapes.
L- We started the Nautical Escapes 2021 website, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube when we retired and began travelling on our boat. We wanted an easy format to share our journey with family and friends using social media. To experience what it was like to be a liveaboard.
B- Our goal was to travel on our boat during the winter months, perhaps as far south as Florida. That has been put on hold. Now we drive tables to Florida!

So whats something about yourself that would surprise people to know
L- Brian and I have been working on a thousand piece puzzle, which we normally don’t have the patience for. Unfortunately my daughter’s cat keeps stealing puzzle pieces, which probably won’t surprise anyone who has a cat.

So what did you want to be when you were growing up?
B- It’s funny that you asked that because I often dreamt of driving a truck when I was young. I retired and have this great opportunity to drive.
L- You would often say that when we retire you would drive a bus, and I would be the Entertainment Director.
So what was your job before you retired?
B- I was a supervisor in a refinery. Thirty-one years in total, and enjoyed it all thoroughly. The specific plant that I was working at has been there for over a hundred years.
L- I was owner/operator for Winner’s Edge Training.
So what do you like most about your job at Loewen Designs?
B- Making people happy, for sure. That’s the best part.
L- The tables are so beautiful, and everyone is always so happy to receive them. We’ve delivered and set up over 175 tables. We would do it everyday if we could. We’re so happy to deliver a product that gives customers so much satisfaction, and that we are able to work with a team that can consistently do that.
B- I’ve always appreciated woodworking, so working with a product of this caliber is amazing.
Do you have a favorite table of ours?
L- I like the live edge bookmatch; it's absolutely stunning!
B- Yes, I’d have to say the bookmatch. They’re all so beautiful, it's hard to pick.
L- We keep saying “Oh this is my favorite. No wait, this is my favorite!”. We’ve changed our minds so many times whenever we see a new table!
So what do you like to do in your spare time when you're not driving?
L- We like to walk, exercise, catch up with kids and friends.
B- Have an Eggs Benedict breakfast with our kids at our favourite grill.
So what is your favorite dog that you've met on your trip so far? Do you have a favorite? It's hard to pick. I know too.
L- There are so many! One customer had four dogs she rescued. The Pit Bull mix was the sweetest thing.
B- I can recall two Chocolate Labs that were best buddies, it was hilarious.
