The Project
This summer we did something new.
A family reached out to us, they were building a new home, and they needed to furnish it. They asked if we would build them the furniture for the house. Now, not everything, just the wood stuff. Well we always love a challenge, so we said yes.
Now we've built all these different things before. We've built bedside tables, we've built cabinets, we've built beds. We've built lots of tables and chairs. So now we were building them all, at the same time. How hard could it be?
Hard.
Okay it wasn't actually that bad, we just had to do it all at the same time so we could ship it all together. We wanted to ship it all together so I could go visit and set it all up for them in their new home. Ran into a couple snags on their end, home building often does, but we made it down there and set everything up. Here's a run down of everything we did.
Starting with the dining area!
A large round walnut table top with a black base and chairs to match. This was a beautiful table, and it fit into this nook perfectly. The two different finishes and woods complemented each other well. I love how this space turned out.
Living room!
We made 3 tables, a large coffee table and 2 end tables. They all had the same style, and were similar to the dining table. The tops of these were black, and the bases iron. The big chunky corner posts are wonderful and the shelves underneath are very useful. This whole area looked marvellous.
Front Entrance
The front entrance had a wonderful cabinet with a herringbone pattern on the front. The 6 drawers made for a lot of functionality, and the whole piece was beautiful. With a nice bench right next to it, it was a wonderful way in or out of the home.
Primary Bedroom
The primary bedroom also went iron. A nice big bed frame with 4 different "bedside tables". Of course, only 2 actually went next to the bed. Lots of nice storage in these, and a great bed. It was also a beautiful room, with an excellent closet. Both bedrooms were fantastic spaces.
The Second Bedroom
This one went all coconut, a nice brown. The built ins in this room were really nice, and the stuff we brought fit in great. Here there were only 2 bedside tables, but there was a dresser to match. It was a beautiful combination, with another great bed.
Summary
There were a couple other little pieces, a vanity stool and a toy chest, everything turned out great. We had a lovely time doing all the pieces, and it was a great experience.
2 beds, 6 bedside tables, 1 dresser, 2 benches, 1 stool, 1 toy chest, 1 coffee table, 2 end tables, 1 dining table, 8 chairs, 1 entryway cabinet = 1 great project.
