Determining the right table for you includes figuring out the overall style of your space and your home. Our Rustic Maple collections have a unique place among our collections and may just be exactly what you’re looking for. Let’s explore what makes these tables stand apart.
What does ‘Rustic’ mean?
We hear the word ‘rustic’ a lot these days when discussing design styles and it’s worth confirming what we mean. Rustic styled rooms typically emphasize natural materials and lots of textures. Warm, nature inspired colors dominate and furniture pieces are generously proportioned. They are large, chunky and heavy, especially in contrast to Minimalist styled pieces. These spaces invite you to live in them without always having to be on your best behavior.
How does that translate into the Rustic Maple collections?
Our Rustic Maple tables are all made with solid maple that has a texture we call millsawn. This texture has a worn-in look from the saw marks that have been intentionally left. The tables are all sanded and sealed multiple times with stain and conversion varnish to end up with a finish that has character but nothing rough enough for the table to be uncomfortable. These saw marks are unique in each table top.
The different textures in the wood absorb color differently giving the table a unique look. The result is a table that highlights the natural look of the wood.
In addition to the texture of the wood itself, the tables in these collections have generous proportions. They are intended to be larger tables which means that the larger posts and beams feel right. The tables in our Bragg collection also incorporate metal hardware with an industrial / pioneer energy that suits this look.
Our Rustic Maple tables have a unique finish in its own set of colors that highlight the millsawn texture. This finish is a conversion varnish which is very durable and easy to care for.
What styles are part of the Rustic collections?
Our Rustic Maple tables fall into 2 main ‘categories’ - one that focuses on Parsons tables and one that has metal accents. Let’s start with the Parsons styled tables. This means that they have legs in the corners joined together with a skirt. This collection includes the Hudson base where the corner post legs are joined with a trestle, the Miller base which is a chunky version of a classic Parsons table and the Erie base which is a version of a Parsons table where the post legs come through the table, showing off the end grain of the legs.
The other category features bases with metal accents. The Echo base is made up of two heavy steel legs joined by a timber trestle. The Powell base makes use of a metal turnbuckle to connect 2 X-shaped legs and the Huron base uses 2 turnbuckles to connect a pair of H legs to the table top.
All of our Rustic Maple tables are also available as extension tables. One leaf adds to each end to accommodate a couple more friends.
Why would I want a Rustic Maple table? Who is it right for?
A Rustic Maple table fits well into a large kitchen or other large gathering space. These tables really are designed for bringing people together. They’re great for hosting celebrations like Thanksgiving or Christmas. Our team gathers around one of our Rustic Maple tables every Wednesday to have pizza and wings together for lunch. Between the millsawn texture and the varnish finish, they stand up really well and oopsies can disappear. They create welcoming spaces where friends and family can just be themselves.
