While Minimalist design appeals to people who like white space and simplicity, Maximalist design speaks to the hearts of those who like layers. Imagine layers of shapes, patterns, and colors to create a warm, inviting space.
We recently delivered and installed a table in a space that would be considered maximalist. One of the first things you notice about the space are the whimsical shapes. Note in particular the puzzle piece ‘arch’ between the kitchen and dining area as well as the egg shaped window.
Another defining characteristic of Maximalism is the use of bold colors. In this particular space, you can see the light blue fridge, the yellow kitchen cabinets, the green banquette by the window, and the blue sofa in the sitting area. All of these bold colors serve to make the space feel vibrant and alive.
Some of these colors are then picked up in the patterns, specifically in the flooring. The use of various colors in the flooring works well in this space because the swirling pattern itself is consistent. Some thread to tie the space together is critical in keeping a Maximalist space cohesive as opposed to a collection of random ‘stuff’.
Natural elements such as wood and plants are critical elements in Maximalist design. The proximity of the outdoor space through the living room window and the plants in the space provide a natural dimension.
Walnut is the perfect choice for wood pieces in a Maximalist space. With its range of coloring including blacks, oranges, reds, blondes and browns and unique graining, walnut complements the variety of color, texture and pattern found in Maximalist spaces. The organic shape of the oval dining table is well suited to this design style that celebrates life and vibrancy.
Sometimes Maximalist spaces can feel cluttered if it’s just a collection of random ‘stuff’. When the elements in the room hang together in some way - often with some common color thread - these spaces have depth and character.
At the end of the day, both Minimalist spaces and Maximalist spaces are inviting. Discover which style speaks to you by playing a bit with your space. After all, it is YOUR space so you should have some fun with it. Whatever your style is, our design team can help you discover the best table to complete your space.
