This is a great flexible shape, it offers lots of space on the table top, while the rounding makes it easier to move around. It’s a great shape for a table in a high traffic area.

Ellipse

Ellipses are easy to move around and great community tables as everyone can see everyone else. The ends can get very narrow though, so it can be difficult to sit many people comfortably.

Round

Round tables are great community tables as everyone can see everyone else around the table. They’re also great in high traffic areas as they’re easy to move around.

Rectangle

This is a classic shape that offers a lot of usable space. Whether it be for putting down groceries, playing a board game, or an extra seat, rectangles are very practical.

Ash

A blonde wood, ash is very white. This makes it great for taking color, especially cooler colors like white, grey, or black. Ash has a strong grain pattern so even with a dark color it looks very wood-y. It’s also very hard, they make baseball bats from this stuff.

Rock Maple

A blonde wood with a tight subtle grain pattern. Maple takes color very well, and is incredibly hard. The hardest of the woods we work with maple will put up with a lot. This is the wood we most often recommend to parents of young children.

Red Oak

A blonde wood with pink undertones, red oak is actually lighter in color than most white oak. It is however more pink, and so it often pairs well with a warm darker finish. Red oak has similar strong grain patterns to white oak. It’s also very hard.

White Oak

A blonde wood with golden hues to it, white oak has a strong grain patterning with clear grain lines. It’s especially beautiful with lighter finishes. White oak is a very hard wood and is very resilient to dents and scratches.

Walnut

A rich dark brown wood with a lot of beautiful variation in color. Walnut comes in ranges of red, gold, and dark browns. It also has beautiful grain patterns. Walnut is a hardwood and will wear well, but as the softest of the woods we use, it can mark more easily.

You can fit a place setting on either side of the table but not much else, maybe a salt and pepper shaker or whatever kinds of sauces you like on a hot dog.

36" Ellipse

You can fit a place setting on either side, and a small centerpiece, or a water pitcher. You could try a small serving dish but it’ll fill up fast.

42" Ellipse

You can fit a place setting on either side of the table and serve meals family style. There is room for a salad bowl or a pizza box in the middle of the table.

Ellipses are a tricky shape, and generally you can’t seat anyone on the end of a small one, so probably disregard our notes about sitting on the end.

48" Ellipse

4 people at 48” long is going to be about as much as you can fit. You can do 1 at the end or 2 on the sides, but both isn’t likely possible.

54" Ellipse

4 people is going to be comfortable, either on the sides or one on the end. You can try squeezing 6 around this table, but you’ll need to be comfortable bumping into each other.

60" Ellipse

4 people is very comfortable, no matter the width, and you can squeeze 2 on the sides and 1 on the end. 6 is going to be more comfortable with a wider table as people will be sharing the corner.

66" Ellipse

6 people is pretty comfortable no matter the width. There’s room for 2 on the sides and 1 on the end, or you can try 3 on the side if you’d like.

Description

A Jarvis ellipse is a pedestal table that brings a ton of style to a small dining space. The organic shape and minimalist pedestal base of our Jarvis elliptical oval table demonstrate that small spaces can still be beautiful, interesting spaces. As a pedestal base, it also offers flexibility on how to seat people around the table.

With our Jarvis pedestal tables, the base plate plays a key role in the stability of the table. As a result, the plate mirrors the shape of the table top and is scaled based on the size of the top. The turned and sculpted post adds an element of style to the table. Depending on the size of the table, we can adjust the diameter of the post or add a second post. We recommend the Jennings base for tables 36" x 72" or smaller.

Something to keep in mind with elliptical oval tables is that there are no straight sides and the ends can get narrow which means that the best seating is on the sides of the table. While this does make an elliptical table less efficient for seating, it does make it easier for everyone to see each other.

All of our tables are made from solid hardwood. As a natural product, each piece of wood has its own uniqueness.

  • Natural wood has variation in the grain.
  • Solid wood will expand and contract in different climates
  • Most of our walnut has sap wood, which introduces some variance in color into the wood

Delivery

Getting your table to you safely is part of our commitment to you. You’ve made the investment in high quality hardwood furniture and we’ve taken the time to build and finish it just for you.

A full description of how we can deliver your table is available here. Essentially we can ship to you via freight carrier, with a white glove service, or with our delivery van & trailer. Which options are available for your table will depend on where you live and how quickly you need it and if you can help with delivery and assembly.

It’s worth noting that shipping, duties and tariffs are included in the prices we quote. Each situation is really quite unique so we would be happy to chat about what delivery can look like for you, based on your table, your location, and your schedule.

Whichever delivery option you choose, you will receive a table built specifically for you. We will build, finish and pack your table which takes 5-7 weeks. After that we arrange for shipping. If you need your table sooner, we may be able to expedite production or the shipping. In this case, reach out to us and we’re happy to chat about what the options could be.

An ellipse dining table seems to slip into a space in wonderful ways. It’s an uncommon shape for a dining table, so it’s a strong statement piece a lot of the time. But it’s also so subtle in the flow of your space, they’re so easy to move around. The Jarvis, especially as a smaller elliptical oval, is pretty and subtle in a room. With the matching base it’s also really solid and very reliable.

Ted, my dad, designed the base under the Jarvis collection over Christmas one year. At least, that’s how I remember it. Then some time around New Years he showed it to me, he had it all figured out. It could pair with any shape of dining table. It had lots of room underneath for legs, nothing would be in the way. It was very pretty. It’s hard to find a good pedestal for a small table. This is it. This is the good pedestal for small tables. I certainly think so.
