Bring a touch of style to your dining room with this walnut dining table with leaves. The modern styling of the custom T trestle base gives a hint of farmhouse design while still keeping the overall design clean and modern. The color tones of the walnut wood with a blackened finish give the table a timeless elegance and the ability to add leaves to the extension table make it very functional. The table pictured is 36" x 60" and seats 4-6 people. With the 2 - 18" leaves in place you can seat 8-10.
The table top is just over 1" thick and has been made with locally sourced walnut. We hand rub an all-natural oil into the wood to give it a matte finish.. We like this food-safe finish because it is durable, having been originally designed for floors.
This table is a center extension table which means that there is a split in the middle of the table where it pulls apart. You can add one or both of the leaves here. With center extension tables, the grain always runs widthwise. More information can be found here:
At Loewen Design Studios, we build each of our dining tables one at a time, just for you, just the way that’s right for you. That’s exactly what we did with this one. It was inspired by another table on our site and then customized for its new home.
Here’s how this table came to be:
The original inspiration for this table was a similar table we’ve built before, but the people who sit around this table now-a-days wanted to make a couple changes. (Here is the listing for the inspiration if you’re curious)
They liked the Boyer edge with the rounded corners that makes a rectangular table just a little easier to walk around.
They also liked the custom Tobin trestle base, which give the table a modern look while still honoring classic farmhouse styling.
The shape of the table was good too as a rectangle is a very practical shape.
The main change was finish on the wood and the size of the table. The inspiration table was finished in natural while this table was finished with a black colored oil, bringing out the darker tones of the walnut wood. This customer also chose to go with a slightly smaller everyday table with
2 leaves instead of one.
