There's something great about something handmade. There's something great about something real. That's why we're proud to say that our tables are handmade from solid hardwood.

New to our collection is our rustic style tables. These aren't just designed — they're crafted. The distinctive texture on the planks, a result of real saw marks, add a farmhouse charm. Even better, these marks still leave the table easy to use.

Our commitment to quality is present in every step. Each table goes through sanding and sealing more than once. This ensures a smooth finish, retaining the right amount of texture from the saw marks.

These marks absorb more stain, highlighting the wood's textured finish, showcasing the rustic-ness. Rustic-osity? Rustic-y nature? Farmhouse vibes? It makes the texture that's so wonderful in these pieces shine.

Another thing setting our rustic textured tables apart from the standard smooth tables are the finishes we offer. Choose from:

	Mocha: A deep shade of brown, reminiscent of the earth.
	Cinnamon: A warm hue with playful reddish-orange nuances.
	Smoke: A contemporary grey, intensified at the saw marks.
	Wheat: A subtle fusion of brown-grey, almost like a delicate whitewash.

All these finishes compliment the textured tables, and are great in a variety of farmhouse and rustic settings.

This August we’re introducing 2 new collections and I think it’s fair to say we are SO excited. They both have a rustic charm and are solid hardwood tables made from maple with a textured finish. This finish is left from the original mill sawing, the first saw blades through the tree. Check out the blog to learn more.

Parents aren’t supposed to have a favorite child, but they all do. At Loewen Design Studios we work with 4 kinds of woods, and we all have favorites. My dad’s favorite is Walnut, my mom’s is Rock Maple, and I’m torn between Ash and Oak. I just love the way the grain in the wood comes alive when it’s finished and the two tone look that the wood table ends up having.

At Loewen Design Studios we work with Rubio Monocoat to finish our tables. With Rubio we’re able to create a variety of finish looks, but the most dramatic look must be the black finish, especially on Ash or Oak. So how is it that this finish gets so very black? And how black is it really?

Oak is one of the best hardwoods available. This is for a number of reasons. First, it's very hard. It’s a very solid hardwood that will hold up very well to everyday use for many many years. It will hold up to most everything you have to throw at it. This is why it’s been used for so long in dining tables. 

At Loewen Design Studios we work with many different woods. One of those is Maple. Maple is an excellent hardwood for wood tables and is very plentiful in the northeastern parts of North America. Its clean, tight grain has been valued by furniture makers for centuries.
