Here at Loewen Design Studios we are really committed to making sure you get the best table for you. That means we want it to be a style that you like in a size and shape that works well for your space and your needs. It also means that it has to fit your budget.
One of the big considerations for a custom wood dining table is the species of wood. Each one has its own unique look and a unique price point. For example, we build a lot of tables out of Walnut, typically with a Natural finish. Walnut, though, is a premium wood species. Certain species can be considered premium for a bunch of reasons: popularity, scarcity, hardness, etc. If you’re open to a bit of a different graining, a lighter wood like Maple with a dark brown finish like Cortado might do the trick and get you closer to your budget.

The other key consideration that is often overlooked is the base. Simplifying the base is a good way to get your table within your budget. Perhaps the look that caught your eye is a table with an impressive pedestal base, like our Como base. These pedestal bases are beautiful but with so much wood on them, they aren’t the best fit for a tight budget. However, pedestal bases in general offer some really great functionality. You can seat people as you like around the table without needing to worry about table legs getting in the way. So depending on the size of your table, a base that is visually lighter, like our Baker base or the Alta legs, might serve a similar purpose and be easier on the budget.
A bit of a design modification can make a difference as well. Let’s imagine that you’d like to seat 4 people at the table - and maybe 6-8 for special occasions. An extension table where you can add the leaves just when you need the extra seating is great but it does add cost. If you have the room, getting a standard table that seats 6 comfortably and 8 in a pinch would be a less expensive way to go.

Bottom line is: we do understand that budget is one of the factors in choosing the best table for you. The more we know about what you’re looking for - size, function, style/color, AND budget, the better suggestions our design team can provide. We’d love to work with you to figure out what your table can look like. As a custom studio, we build every table to order so you can get the table that works best for you, your space AND your budget.
